These three pieces come from Biagio Marini’s Opus 1, his Affetti Musicali.… Nella quale si contiene, Symfonie, Canzon, Sonate Balletti, Arie, Brandi, Gagliarde & Corenti a 1.2. 3, published in Venice in 1617.
Biagio Marini was born in Brescia, then the main centre for violin. He travelled extensively, working in Brussels, and Germany and many Italian cities. For a time he was working under Monteverdi in Venice. These are fairly modest pieces that do not demand a virtuoso technique.
