Description
Within a basically simple style, Hans Leo Hassler manages to produce quite varied pieces: these songs are predominantly lively, but two of them, Ach, Weh! des Leiden, and Mein Gmueth ist mir verwirret are distinguished by an exquisite melancholy; the second of these is the original to the Bach Passion Chorale. The other pieces are close to the style of Gastoldi’s balletti; the pieces in question are: Ich hab dir zu wol getrauet, Vor Freuden will ich singen, Wer liebt aus treuem Hertzen and the popular Tanzen und Springen.
