This collection is unusual in including pieces for every possible number of instruments between 4 and 13, also for the use in some pieces of very widely spaced ensembles. Stylistically the pieces are mostly rather conservative, avoiding complex harmonies and virtuoso figuration; nevertheless, they represent the work of an experienced church composer. Lappi worked at Brascia, a city known as a centre of violin making.
