This remarkable work is quite grand in the tutti sections, but has quieter sections that quote Palestrina’s Vestiva i colli (19-25) and Lassus’ Susanne un jour (48-54) respectively.
This work comes from Grillo’s Sacri Concentus ac Symphoniae, published in Venice in 1618. Like the Sonata Seconda à7 ↣ (ADC52), it is not strictly speaking a double-choir piece, but in seven real parts, however we did not want to separate these two rather interesting pieces from the eight-part works by Grillo, all of which appear in this ADC series.
