George Bingham’s 3 volumes of Airs Anglois (1702-04) contains a varied ranged of pieces mostly for a single recorder and basso continuo, but also these 14 duets.
George Bingham’s four books of Airs Anglois were published in Amsterdam between 1702 and 1704 by Etienne Roger. They are nicely engraved little books, much prettier than the books printed at the same time in London.
The music in the Airs Anglois is mostly for a solo recorder and basso continuo, but there are a few unaccompanied solo pieces (printed in our English Baroque Solo Book) as well as the duets found here. Not all the pieces are by Bingham: a few are attributed to musicians like Gottfried (Godfrey) Finger and Gottfried Keller, as well as to more obscure composers.
