Braun’s Pièces sans basse are 24 in number, of which 18 appear here. The remaining 6 have been omitted on the grounds that they are unsuitable for recorder, consisting almost entirely of large leaps that can sound very effective on transverse flute or bassoon, but which are not always musically acceptable on the recorder.
These pieces are originally for solo flute or bassoon. Some appear in collections attributed to Quantz.
