Eric Satie’s Gymnopédies, of 1888, surely among the most original pieces of their decade, have been arranged for almost everything, including full orchestra (by Claude Debussy), but, until now, apparently not for the alto recorder.
In this transcription we have transposed the pieces up a fourth, on the assumption that the tonal relationship between the three pieces should be preserved.
In playing these wonderfully ambiguous pieces on the recorder, most players will find it necessary to use alternative fingerings for certain notes to get the ends of phrases properly shaped.
