Originally for flute, this is a wonderfully bold and original.
Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach’s only surviving piece for unaccompanied flute was included in year 1763 of the musical quarterly Musikalisches Mancherley published in Berlin. Playing it on the recorder in the usual transposition is a bit more of a challenge than is the case with the partita by J. S. Bach, but it is certainly a musically rewarding work.
In the third movement, bars 7 and 108 are as in the original: perhaps the last note should be d”’.
