This pavan and galliard pair was named after Thomas Paget, a kind of peripatetic diplomat for whom Phillips worked for several years.
Both are exceptionally fine works in a melancholy vein.
Peter Phillips was one of that group of English musicians exiled because of religious persecution (he was a Catholic).
As a result, his music is very interesting in its mix of influences.
