Little is known of Luigi Mazzi, but he published a book of canzoni in 1596.
These pieces were probably intended primarily for instruments of the violin family, so that the ideal ensemble should consist of violin, two violas and cello. But other instruments can be used: viols ( TrTBB) or (TrTTB), two cornetts and two trombones, or recorders (SATB).
