William Daman was born in Liège around 1540, and died in London in the early 1590s: it would appear that he moved to England around 1565 to work for a certain Lord Buckhurst, who was a keen patron of musicians. In 1579 Daman became one of Queen Elizabeth’s musicians; he worked in this capacity until his death. He was best known for his harmonisations of psalm melodies, some of which were published in London in 1579 and 1591.
