Description
These five Dutch songs are taken from En Duytsch Musyck Boek, Daer inne begrepen syn vele schoone liedekens met IIII met Ven de VI partijen, published in Leuven (Louvain) by Pierre Phalèse and in Antwerp by Jean Bellère in 1572.
Phalèse’s anthology contains thirty- two songs, al with Dutch texts: there are works by Clemens non Papa, Lupus Episcopius, Lupus Hellinc, Jan Belle, Gerard de Turnhout and others. Some of the composers represented were living at the time (Gerard de Turnhout, for instance), but others, such as Clemens non Papa, had been dead for many years.
