(EML120v) The basse danse ‘La Spagna’ has come down to us in a great variety of settings, many of which have been published by Edition Zefiro.
These two are quite contrasted: 1. by Heinrich Isaac (originally the Agnus Dei II of his Missa La Spagna) is quite contrapuntal, with beautiful rhythmic lines, while 2. by Francisco de la Torre is more like a regular instrumental piece.
Other settings of La Spagna published by LPM included 2 Anonymous ones a4 (AN2↣), a 4-part one by Ghiselin (LPM 205↣), a 5-part one attributed to Josquin des Prés (RB3↣).
Also, from a generation or two later, settings by Costanzo Festa and Ascanio Mayone
(EML338↣ / viols↣)and (353↣ / viols↣).
