Viadana’s Sinfonie a otto voci of 1610 contains 18 pieces named after different Italian cities.
Often there is a specific connection to the city in question in the music: La Mantovana is based on a piece by Gastoldi, a leading musician in Mantova, and La Fiorentina is based on the Aria di Fiorentia (Ballo del Gran Duca).
As the original pitch of Sinfonia La Milanese is unusually high, we have included an extra set of parts transposed down a 4th.
