Viadana’s Sinfonie a otto voci of 1610 contains eighteen pieces named after different Italian cities.
Brescia (in the North Italian region of Lombardy) was one of the first cities to become a centre for violin making and indeed in La Bresciana the top two parts of choir one are clearly written for violins.
